COME ON...! I don't even know why I clicked this thread. Maybe it has something to do with me digging clay for two hours and it never seems to end. HOW FRIGGIN HARD CAN IT BE FOR YOU TO DIG SOME DAMN CLAY?!? damn it now I hate you.

It depends on the area, I've actually spent 25 minutes going by boat (1 screen distance) down a river before I found a clay node. It can be a pain if you start in a bad spot.
