I have broken a few boats to find crates, chests etc etc

There is sometimes a reward other then knowing I just ruined someones day

if you're gonna afk fish (not really recommended in any case), do it from land

I second this but add, make sure your at least 2 squares from the land and 4 if on a lake else boars and bears will be summoned by the Zs on your head.

In the end it was an easy way to move to the camp some friends set up far far away. No worries though, the comments in this thread has made my thought of making an new character located at my old spot for sound like a very good idea. He'll fit right in with the clay-greafers and boat crushers.
