Putting items into containers just leaves trespassing.

Come to think of it, there may be a difference between using shift to move an item between containers, and doing it manually.

i distinctly remember leaving theft scents by putting shit in someones cupboard.

you don't need theft or theft permission to leave items, i don't see why it would leave a scent

edit: actually, yeah, shift-scrolling won't place items if you are trespass only
