So! Eternal newb (but never a scrub) Argus, Watchful Master of All He Surveys (a palisaded enclave in the forest, with no visitors), has been pondering something. When I login, I find I have several things to take care of:
1) Check the chicken coop (I've been grabbing eggs for use in chicken salad)
2) Harvest and replant to keep the beehive cycling
3) Convert plant fibres into linen cloth for use
4) Grind wheat seeds into flour for baking
5) Bake goods
6) Check tanning tubs, drying racks, and herb table
7) Check mental inventory
And this is all before I even go outside the palisade to fish, hunt, or forage.
Now, I don't know about some of you, but every now and then I hear some idjit blathering about how we need to 'turn back the clock' with modern technology. Usually this is tied into global warming, er, climate change. And nowadays, every time I hear it I think of all the tasks I have to do upon login, and I want to ask them if they've played HnH and understand the hard work that goes into medieval-era farming, with no modern agricultural conveniences. My guess is 'no'.
It's still a fun game, though. :)
