All that is different in LP between now and then is that once you've built up a stock of curios (which is still a manner of actively working towards LP gains) you can afford to do more selfless things for a village, friends or the world at large; You now don't HAVE to choose between LP and working for your village/being a merchant/helping strangers/feeding your cat/traveling under the daywalkers golden idol to aquire produce and social interaction. It dampens the impact of raw hours logged in in such a way that while those who play more still have almost as much advantage as ever those who don't aren't as far behind (especially if they're in a village with active curio collectors). Otherwise as near as I can tell LP per hour is mostly unchanged, in fact in the early game I'd say its probably a touch higher.
Stat gain is still as active as ever, and stats beyond a point are more important anyway.
tl;dr. All that got killed was bots, and all that got dampened was the effects of poopsocking alone versus contributing to a village/being a trader/more civilised+social goals. Which is admirable.
