Effectively, only 2. With some delay I managed to use 3. Specially when log moving, board-making, or just mining with 1 and smelting/crafting/FF with the other.
Do you want see right through the devil's eyes?
You must have seen the ground where they all stood before
I was a young man then, I was a young man then
Spending my time on the killing floor
Be more than you seem to be
Joy of labour sets you free.

I could only ever use two. and that was only when new char got bread... because I was too lazy to go hunting, but not too lazy to cannibalize and alt.

well, I did use one for mining in w3, but I would always forget about it and it would auto-logout.

I once got carried away and had account names up to #8. Running at the same time... I namely used them for exploring and talking to folk. Or just as security cameras, heh.

When my alt isn't slaving away in the fields or surrounding forest, I leave him in the middle of my claim for just such a reason while I explore and gather curiosities on my main. :)

I wish I'd done it yesterday, some fuck came through my cave system and stole my Soldier Sword. My skills are too low to track him, dammit.

I use my alts to hold shit while i'm out exploring, or to camp rams to look menacing.

I also have alts for exploring. :)

Nah, I recruit newbs and then make them build walls or pave or go foraging till they figure out what they want to do.

Using them for plowing, 3-4 slaves at same time.

I usually have an alt Farmer on my plot at all times farming stuff or cooking or looking after cows. Might open 3rd alt for HF > Village warping of stuff like ores or logs into the village.

I don't know anyone personally who only plays a single character. It's far too useful to have an industry or nature alt especially if you're playing in smaller groups. I've found two is the comfortable limit unless I'm performing specific tasks like clearing an area or building a wall, but I've got two other accounts for keybearers and backup lawspeakers that have been useful in the past.
