Then ASK for advice my friend.
Saying that this game sucks 'cuz you get murdered and hurrdurr doesn't help, but here's some quick help:
Find a not-so-populated region, it's a good idea to build near, but not beside water, as your place is much more "attractive" to murderers and thieves there. First, get yeomanry, claim a decent sized land, and build a palisade there. After that you'll be safe from most murderers if you don't have anything worth stealing. It's always a good idea to level your perception and exploration at the early point of the game cuz that's where all the good curios are, foraged in swamps and mountains. When you start seeing rustroot, (looks like a root in a little, red pool of blood) you can start searching for a mine. if you find a cave, you can try mining the cave walls, those sometimes have metals in them, but since almost all cave entrance are claimed by now I suggest you go search for metals underground instead. if you find iron or copper + tin, you can make yourself some shiny armor which will protect you from wild animals and aggresive hearthlings, then you should be pretty much safe. (remember to palisade/brickwall the mine aswel, if the mine you find is far away, you might need to move.)
Again, this is much easier said than done, but you wanted advice, now you got it. (maybe this is shitty advice, but meh.)
