Is it possible to make 2 claim stakes? If so, traders can put one up (keeping it small, mind you) and put some chests there to store their haul. That way all you have to do is meet there and trade. Maybe work out a system of kin permissions - or better yet, let there be a merchant or two that has access to everyone's stuff, then just transfers it to each of the parties - they can pick it up whenever. I'd be happy to help out with this if there is enough interest.

You can have more than one claim. He could set up a small one with a few chests in it, and then he carries wares back to it every day, and makes trades from there. I might do the same thing. I've got a ton of tea seeds and things people might want.

That was already settled on actually, but cabin costs changed a bit. The idea was to fill it with the good, allow the trader in party to pick it up and drop off his goods. Then kick from party again.

We could organise a weekly market though lasting for 2 hours perhaps.

I was thinking of something like having a few chests inside a property thing, and bringing one out whenever someone wants to make a trade, and having them put their goods in, and then I'll take it and put in whatever they wanted for the trade. I've also been thinking up some prices for some things (though I won't turn down other offers :3=), like a 1:1 exchange for certain seeds (like 1 wheat for 1 flax), or a 2:1 exchange for the rarer ones like grapes. And backpacks being either one wrought iron bar, or two or three cast iron bars, or 2 meats and 1 intestine for a piece of leather or something.

Currently i trade leather 1:1 for bread, tea seeds and such. I don't think a backpack is worth 3 iron bars. I would glady trade with you otherwise :D

Would you mind telling me when you set up shop? My house is so cluttered up that I'm considering throwing everything away, but I dislike wasting items (which got me into this state in the first place).
You see a masterful engraving by Blaze. On it is Blaze, bears, boars, and foxes. Blaze is striking down the bears. The boars are screaming. The foxes are in a fetal position. The image relates to the return of Blaze in the late winter of 2009.

I think that in order for me to set up the marketplace, I would still need a map of everyone's locale ;P Just to be on the safe side, I want to centralize it, but at the same time, avoid the immediate center of the ring -- Call me silly, but having a market place where newbies spawn could prove slightly bedazzling (and perhaps griefsome for some truly cunning minds). Once I find where people are living (at least their general area), I'll select a plot of land to start building. In anycase, I think I'm going to draft up a quick design with trusty 'ol MS Paint and see if anyone else would be interested with what I am thinking of.

We've got the interest, just need to lay down the groundwork now! \o/

Map for my location in my thread. There's two people living above me about 2 rings away and b12 further away south in the bottleneck. East of me across the lake there's 3 people i don't know, but seem to be settling in mordor.

Alright, I've done a little researching on my own, and here's what I've found:

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v322/Blac_Slayer/mapMarket.png?t=1244259534

This is the current village locals, I believe. The red circles donates (obviously) where people are living. The black X's represent feasable spots for the market place.

And now...

The Design: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v322/Blac_Slayer/TemplateMarketplace.png?t=1244259596
(1000 years in MS Paint)

To start off with, remember that this is Tentative. Its also sized: Each square on the design map represents a 2x2 area, due to the claim system. The claim system starts off with an 8x8 area, allowing people to safeguard their stuff to a degree, but it being so large, the original design needs to be enlarged. Its obviously cut off, but the image is symmetrical from upper right to lower left.

For anyone that can't get it immediately, here's a handy legend:
Blue = Water
Grey = Stone
Green = Grass
Purple = Flowers (Flax being the most asthetically pleasing)
Brown = Dirt

With this in mind! I've made a couple of tentative calculations.

Total amount of stone required minimum: 3828
Total amount of seeds required: 364
Total amount of dirt created: 680
Total water needed: 252

Unfortunately, we do not have the power to create our own ponds, so I will need to ask the admin for assistance in relocating some water! However, the water should be Unfishable. That's right, no fish! They are a resource, and should be taken into account as well to let fishermen get their due respect.

This project is very ambitious, as it obviously shows. I need a large open space, lots and lots of resources, and when it is finished, I need, most importantly, the cooperation of everyone. That means, the village by the lake, and the new town up north, and Camp Noctis, and Bottleneck, and the wanderers and carvers and hunters alike, will need to come together when the project is finished.

And how will people help? I've thought a little on this too. Each day out of the week will be Market Day. It will be held for about 2-4 hours on that particular day of the week (hopefully it will remain one day out of the week to avoid confusion), and that day is when people will assemble to the marketplace to trade and converse on so on. The B12 community are very strong, and have quite a lot of hunters -- They can serve as soldier and protectors of the merchant's gear (including their own!). Camp Noctis are always near the starting area -- Perhaps they can help serve the newbies that come in and aid them in this odd endevour, introducing them to the market place. And the village by the lake as well as the new town located far north can prove to be very heavy in resources. With the whole community working together, a "Market Day" can be a real success.

But a couple of questions to answer as well:

What about thieves and griefers? -- Simple, they are a part of the game. We will no doubt have guards on Market Day, and the community must, in its own effort, attempt to thwart theives. But everyone is still a target, and as such, they should always remember to keep their goods safe!

But what about the claim system? -- In the design, there are 4x4 areas (8x8) of concrete as well as 5x5 (10x10) areas. These areas are meant to be claimed temporarily during Market Day, to assume the safe possession of a merchant's goods. The smaller paved squares are there for those without the materials to create a claim spot, or those who do not bring large amount of trade goods, or even those who are trustworthy or gullible enough to not want a claim spot. Once again, the community must work together -- Merchants bringing the most goods deserve the largest spots.

What if a griefer claims a massive amount of land? -- In the matter of that, we are pretty screwed! Admin powers would be required no doubt, but we must always attempt to solve such a problem through community effort first -- Find the person who claimed it, and ask them to declaim. But then, the claim spot must be -huge- to take out the entire market place, so its unlikely. ...But just unlikely!

How do we get our stuff there? -- I personally carried a chest from my home to Camp Noctis to trade, so until carts are eventually implemented, a caravan of people carrying chests full of stuff is probably the best idea. And since Market Day is one day out of the week, it will only be occasionally that you will need to carry those loads and crawl to and from your place. Just make sure to have a guard or two in case griefers or bandits want your goods!

This is an endevour that started as an idea, but it's really starting to run! However, I still would like suggestions, especially regarding size and location. Please give me feedback so I can start on this ambitious project to help everyone!
