I like driving and i have even invested my time in advanced maneuvers for evasive driving and recovery maneuvers, but it has taken me several years of practice to make them work.

I didn't really practice driving before I got my driver's license. Maybe less than 6 hours of driving experience under my belt before I took my driver's license test. It took me two tries before I passed and got my license, that's when I really felt more confident in my ability and started to drive more often. I haven't had a ticket or been pulled over yet and I'm quite proud of it.

lol idiot. even if you can "handle it" that doesn't mean you won't mess someone else up with your bullshit

Did I say I was driving like that in traffic? I don't know if I could live with myself if I caused someone else to wreck. (I am proud of the fact that I have never been at fault in a collision that has caused injury or damage.) I will grant the fact that if I had a blowout or hit a hole in the road hard enough, I could have flipped the car, so it exactly wasn't 'safe', but then the same could happen at the posted speed limit, too, in something like a minivan or pickup. One person was 'obeying the law' and the other person (me) wasn't.

I just want the ability to wake up one morning, check my coffers, and say "I'm going to the beach today." (England is small, we're always near the beach).

And by coffers, I mean the classic term of where they store money, not Haven and Hearth. :)

my driving lessons were awful. My instructor was a man and kept yelling at me non stop, suggesting I learned to cook instead. Which was ridiculous because I obviously already knew how to cook.

But I think that all that yelling and stress paid off as I am a better driver than most men I know.
The instructor was putting me in bad situations, I was really glad he did (after I got the license) because I learned how to handle certain things before I was able to drive alone. I remember that one time he made me stop in a middle of a steep hill and then start again. A lot of yelling, name calling and tears followed but I made it. Eventually. Or that one time he told me to turn left into a one way street and I did, again lots of yelling followed. I was called a goose that blindly follows stupid orders, he suggested I used my brain next time.
I really hated the guy during my lessons, now I can't thank him enough for being a jerk and teaching me how to drive like a pro.

well, my country being rather small and hard to find areas to practice driving at all, most go to driving schools paying a lot of money. they usually give 30+ hours of driving lessons and 30- hours of teaching laws and rules for paper tests.
the issue i had was occarional birds jumping into my sight for me to brake. my instructor -luckily i got a real nice guy- always loled so hard at me saying, "no worries, they will fly away faster than you can stop."
(my excuse; i have seen enough too many cats dead on roads. i never let my cats out because of this.)

my brother, on the other hand, took his opportunity of staying in Scotland for a couple of years, borrowed his friends' car there, practicing in the countryside on his own and got his license unbelievably cheap and easy.

I had 10 driving lessons, 1 for each week.

My instructor was an old man and he called me a woman every time I did something wrong. Oh how we laughed.

I passed my driving test, first time. Theory was easy.

I think I fluked it though because I spoke to the examiner all the way through the driving test and I think I managed to distract him quite a bit because I didn't get marked down for some mistakes (Forgetting to look in the correct places when driving around an island, indicating, and reversing. Scraping the curb lightly as I parked).

I feel as though I got really lucky, and I appreciate it.

All I need to do now is buy a car, woo.
