No, I wasn't talking about StoneSense. That's probably the best bet for a isometric interface one day - although I still doubt it. Apart from being just a tool for displaying the game in a nicer fashion, StoneSense was awfully laggy for me and didn't seem to get much attention from its developers anymore. At least it was like that the last time I checked on DF, which was admittely a few months ago.
But then people also said a real graphical interface could only be realized if Toady One accepted more people in his little project due to technical reasons, which he never would. That seemed to be the public opinion on the matter at least.
I'm still ashamed and embarrassed about my last post. There are many small reasons but no real excuse for what I said in the end. All that remains is regret because I won't be able to make up for it again.

See you in a different game maybe. Hopefully without retardation from my side.

Actually, stonesense had been dropped for a long time but was recently picked up the guy who made DFhack.

I had read something about this. Wasn't sure if a newer release had come out yet.

In case anyone missed it, all these stories are part of the reason DF was picked up recently for an exhibition at the Metropolitan Museum of Art: http://www.nytimes.com/2011/07/24/magaz ... wanted=all
Opinions expressed in this statement are the authors alone and in no way reflect on the game development values of the actual developers.

Let me show you, here's the story of my fortresses through screenshots.

First Fortress (Glimmergear):

The goblins lawspeaker who was a forgotten beast/demon and 10 goblins flew in on giant bats and landed right in my unprotected courtyard and butchered everyone, I had around 50 military dwarfs, in the end I only had 4 left who managed to slay him:

what the hell am I talking about indeed, tbh I've never cared to search for good tile sets - I did use a custom one that wasn't anywhere near as good as those, but the game is still difficult to grasp - Shit most things worth doing are hard but alas I still CBF learning to play.

Thanks for the tilesets though :)
I had a retardedly huge signature and have gotten this embarrassing replacement to show for it.

Sorry to shatter your dreams but I believe that picture is a few centuries old. There was not even any information about whether this is an actual project when it appeared. I doubt anything will come of it.

Actually I believe on May Green's website he mentions that he asked a guy to make a mock-up for him and that was the outcome, but there are no plans to get the guy who did that to work on any project.

my best ones were one I have on my old PC and an older version of DF. cant remember what it was called, but it was above ground with a 16 floor iron mine. 16 floors because once I got to 16, I couldn't go any deeper. was great, except harpies would attack every summer and I had problems with a sturgeon that wiped out a whole contingent of soldiers, the ink of fathoms. sucked ass. the other one was called targetpapers, and it ended when 3 goblin raids occurred simultaneously with a troll coming out of the cavern below. the goblins butchered everything in sight, while the troll ate a baby, then beat its mother to death with her own silk mitten. the fort was finally finished when, in an attempt to get the goblins out, I flooded the top floor stone stockpiles. I had forgotten to seal up a hole in the floor and the habitation floor was flooded killing another 5 dwarves. after that, I only had two dogs, a duck, and two miners.
