Is it really starting over if you've still got your settlement?

After so much LP farming without macros yes. Losing your settlement means nothing when you still have yourself, the collection of all game experience. But when you lose yourself and all of that collected experience there's really no point in trying to get it all back. There's no fun in repeating three-four weeks of mundane game play just to get back to where you were again.

Not to mention I was trying to get back to where I used to be with THIS character and I wasn't even 1/4 of the way there.

Then why were you crossing a river?

I think you may be playing with a vastly different philosophy to myself... If you're trying to win the LP/stat race, then I don't think you're going to have a satisfactory experience.

If you're playing to have an explore and build some nice looking stuff and don't mind doing it over an extremely long time, then you'll probably find full trad a lot more rewarding.
