During my noob phase I, too, wore the jack'o'mask, and was told the danger of wearing it by some uninformed newbs.

Honestly, griefers seem as likely to wear Dhelms pumpkin masks. Wear what you want and let only your actions bring judgement upon you.

For all the time I have played this game, I never saw a pumpkin head griefer. I don't see why every person who wears one should be painted in that light.

Also, make sure to kin your friends.

Even when groups like PHP were around they were a joke. I don't know where this strong negative association people have comes from. I suppose it can't be helped that people will have irrational associations with what others wear and that's why the easiest way to get into someone's walls will always be putting on linen clothes, clogs, and a pageboy cap.

I think it's just the fact that the mask looks so "wicked". I remember back when I played Ultima Online that newbies would run away from me and call me a murderer if I was wearing a bone helmet, which looked like a "scary" skull mask. Bone armor was relatively strong for the ease it could be acquired, so a lot of people wore it, but newbies didn't know that yet.

P.S. Newsboy cap.

I just started playing a few days ago and was recently given this warning in global chat. My response was, "Okay, I'll wear my fox hat instead." Then I was told that the fox hat could get me pantsed. LOL What I took away from that conversation is that if someone wants to mess with a noob, they're going to find a reason to mess with a noob.

I will say that the notion of some people hunting down noobs in pumpkin hats is probably true and would explain something that happened the other day. My husband and I took our boat out for a fishing trip, both of us wearing our cool pumpkin hats. As we were cruising down the river, I saw someone on the shore wearing a bear cape. We had just been discussing Sevenless' guide for new players and at one point in that guide we were warned to be cautious of people wearing bear capes and black robes. So naturally when I saw this person I told my husband to just keep going down river away from that guy. The next thing I know he had hopped in his boat and started chasing us. Eventually, his boat navigating skills failed him and he got stuck on a piece of land. That gave us enough of a lead to pull ashore, grab the boat, and port to our HFs. I can't help but wonder if he chased us just because we were wearing those hats. :?

That was me who spoke to you on Global. I said that response about fox hats solely since I know a few people who have an absolute hatred for them (similar to me and jack-o'-masks). If you needed to choose between one or the other, I'd advise fox hats.

This. Be a man or don't.

Yeah, I ditched the pumpkin after you gave me that heads up and stuck with the fox hat. Now that I have a straw hat, I feel like a proper little farmer. :D

You mean the mindset where you find any excuse to kill a noob, even if presented in a way that's widely understood as a fallacy?

Or: Are_ you_just_jelly?
"Lol noobs. Wear the only cloths that you have access to make that look better than a top hat and linens and DIE."
Sounds like some serious oppression. Kill me bro, i'm wearing my mask.

The greifers: LOL IM SO MUCH MOAR BADASS FOAR WEARING FRUIT ON MAH HEEAD WHAAL BASHIN' UP PEEPZ'S STUFFZ
^ Yeah, I don't think people really do that. Or the one's with sense don't, atleast. I know if I were to bash people's stuff, i'd wear something protective. It would just ruin the aesthetic feeling of razing stuff to the ground, and causing undying misery to people who just lost all of their hard work if i'm doing it with FRUIT ON MY FACE.

LOLBRO THE OTHER DAY, this pumpkin guy was effin' with mah shit, so I came up with my battleaxe, and crushed his fucking head. Wouldn't have happened if he wore a helmet.

If you prefer your mask over your life then go ahead bro!

But I'd take it off, if I ever see someone with a pumpkin mask to me personally it means "Kill the fool"
