Agreed.

If you want to make things easier on new players, let villages voluntarily allow new players to spawn at their village totem instead of RoB. Maybe have the new player room have a number of ladders with rune stones in front of them with the name of the town on the ladder. Or just randomly assign new players to villages.

Maybe make it an invite/accept system with a toggle for auto accept?

That could be a problem.

Indeed it could, both for the players and the towns, but it'd be reasonably easy to implement and lower the impact of RoB

How about new landmarks like the RoB, spawn in supergrids a certain distance from the RoB. When you spawn you can choose which landmark to start from. That way if you want to join an already formed village you can spawn closer to it, but if you want to start a new village you can choose a newer landmark and can reach new land easier. This is assuming the auto-generation is added and would require a whole revamp on the map creation and character creation. Lots of work but maybe worth it especially depending on how many people plan to play.

New spawn locations for new players would be a good thing, however I don't like the idea of throwing up more RoB's automatically. I think villages should be able to construct them and spend authority to make them function.

If the new RoBs radiate as much civilization as the original, it's a horrible idea. Otherwise, not bad.

Anyone who lives right on the RoB is going to think the map is very small. The place is a cramped and desolate waste land.

I'm not so sure about that. With three or four new RoBs off in other, possibly quite distant megagids that would make for five times as much space for newbies without significantly changing the infinite space for uberplayers.
Surprise.
