We also considered the alternative of simply having a special skill that must be acquired before being able to see item qualities at all, making it boolean instead.

i think perception would be better. might be some different ways to go about it though. maybe based on sqrt(per*int).

IMO it should be like foraging, you buy the skill then have to increase stats to get better at it.

Some people wont know if they are cheated or not in trade and the q system would just be plain off.

You would need 100 perc and intell just to see something at q100.
