The trick is to give them enough to help them but not enough that they now depend on you. Start trading for things as soon as you can instead of giving them things and you should all end up better off.

I shall take your advice and try again!

it sort of is...you get a puppy you have to get it housebroken

I've taken on a few newbs this world, some work out some don't...the ones that work out are usually fun and add a good laugh every so often, the ones that don't you usually think wow I should have shot him/her when I first saw them

I've only come across 2 actual noobs this world, 1 I saved from a boar then he tried to steal my boat(shot him but let him go) the other decided to walk right up on me as I was expanding my palisade...I don't like people trespassing on my land and I really don't like people walking toward me when I don't know them, he is actually the only person I've ever killed, and I sort of feel bad about it, but he did deserve it. makes me want a no trespassing sign though.

Training/ teaching its all the same. This game not only has complex systems but the added factor that you are playing with real people. You cant just learn from a wiki page how to act around people and how to read people and a little guiding hand can help stop a newbie from making classic mistakes like getting to close to some one or just simply standing still while they chat.
