fixed it. complete newbs to the whole scene come here all the time about getting ko'd and their "settlement" (a lean-to or cabin with a few crates and picket fence) torn down all the time.

Death isn't enough for anyone used to the system. For that, it takes an entire "salt the earth" policy.

I hate to see this happen to new players. Some people just feel the need to be complete dicks, though. Rule #1 in any open PvP game is: Don't trust anyone! Rule #2 is: Don't forget rule #1! I never can remember who the quote is supposed to belong to, but it goes something like "Don't trust anyone, not even yourself."

Then again, how did the other guy figure out where you lived? If you went far enough, there's no practical way he (or she) could have found you. If you took something or performed another criminal act, you just lead them right to you.

i tend to trust people and thus far havent had any major in doing so. but i wouldnt trust someone i've just met ingame...though if i was int he same settlement/town as them theres a degree of trust already ther in establishing that kind of relationship.

This guy was not lazy. At first he was fine, but after few days, he started to ask for the key to my minehole, or permission to enter my cave, everyday. He had low STR that was not high enough to mine in my minehole. He couldn't enter my cave because my cave is covered by my friend's claim. At that moment, I think he is probably planning to leave me already.

And someday after a week of life living with him, I hunted a bear, found some flotsams/glimmermoss, went to his house (which is near mine) and wanted to give him a surprise.

What I found was his claim, his HF, the cow I tamed for him, the metal meat grinder I built for him (which made of my last metal bars), the tools etc... disappeared. Oh, I am the one who was surprised.

I am worried about him. Shits always happen. But I didn't see any scents. Maybe he decided to move away? I asked myself, try not to think in the bad way. I wasn't angry. I made those things for him, so he have right to take them away.

Fortunately, he didn't change his HS which he gave me at first. I spawned an alt to his HF to make sure that he's fine. Of course he was, even occupied a cave (he told me that it has ores) and built himself a cabin. He was not very far away from me. But that area, not only close to river, but also full of raiders (that the raiders me, and my allies was trying hard to track).

After a few hours, had a talk, and heard that someone took away his chest which is full of curios. I told him to destroy the HFs (My alt', don't know if any) in his claim. (He claimed that it was my alt took away it. But hell, my alt were fresh spawned.). I knew that thing was going wrong. I told him to stop mining and try to build a palisade. He built a smelter and kiln. Then went to mine, and told me that he was trying to get the materials for palisade.

Later, he told me that there were some random russian runestones. I told him to hide the runestones behind something.

And the next day he removed me from his kin list. Maybe he would like to get on his own. So I stopped to trace him with my alt.

I knew that you were going to die, anyway. You even left scents on my claim. I told you to turn criminal acts off, and not to leave scents anymore. Your anwser was "I don't honestly care, I turn criminal acts on so I can walk on people's claim.".

I apologize to you for lying to you that I didn't know the people (my alts). You moved away from me, I had to try not to let you know that I am still around, because my being might be one of the reasons that you left me.

I am also willing to apologize to you if I did anything wrong.

I didn't think of metals, or owning a mine in the first day. I thought of survive. Maybe I gave you too much.

Anyway, at least I know that there are scents of the murderers now. Going to track.
