I don't think worlds are that old to make gold or silver so common to be used in trades. Pearls are just easier to get for everyone than digging lv4 or 5 mines or whatever you need to find some. But with time maybe pearl will loose value and coins will be used who knows, they have everything you need in game, they are stackable and you can turn them back into bars. Maybe a big town need to begin working with them?

Well the reason maybe metal coins worked in w3 was because mines were different then? So to newbies metal was quite inaccessible to start off.

Same could be said for gold now, I suppose. So it would be the larger economies in game that would (jointly) control the currency, if gold coins were adopted.

When you consider that Dis/Ainran found a 57 bar (5700 coins!) node (and thats just one node, of course their bot miners have found plenty I'm sure :D), and they clearly don't know what to do with it, it might be worthwhile for them to introduce it as a currency at their trading center, to help consume it.

tbh i hope to build a town based on gold coins as a currency, how would one work round the ql of coins? if you could help explain the point system maybe i could work out a true ratio and find a way to work.

any ideas?

The point system is easy to understand. What is there to explain about it? There is no actual difference between the point system and the price of an item. The value is based on how difficult said item is to obtain and/or the item's demand. These are basic economic principles and can't be explained in a short forum post. Try the web, instead. If you wish to use coins, just substitute x number of coins for the value of an item and there is your typical conversion rate.

Coins can work even better because now there's actually sinks for common metals. I don't really see demand for abacuses going down. So yeah, you just need to value coins at the value of the metal they're made of.

Of course, the unbelievably shitty coin management interface doesn't exactly help to make them popular.

You might be trying to make people's trade threads more complicated than they actually are. You might want to ask individual traders that question.
