I did a ton of hunting with rustroots too, all over, I cant find anything. I found a tin mine in some desert, but I need iron and only iron and I cant find any, and that tin mine was the only one i found

Take the tin mine and trade tin for iron.

Only built mines don't show. Attaching a log isn't enough, the rustroots will still detect it.

No, you can find mines while they are still under construction, only after completion you cannot find it.
