Well I don't "hate" salem but i have zero interest in it. it looks fine but i think sometimes j/l don't really grasp the unique appeal of h&h. it's 2d graphics (like Ragnarok and heroes of might and magic had a sandbox baby) are a lot more appealing than they think. Salem to me is "just another graphic" game like the 1000's that a;ready exist. (With diff mechanics of course) and I totally understand their desire to realize a larger dream or whatnot. But graphics whores (so to speak) should remember that Ragnarok, with it's 2d it still very much alive after 12 years of onliine play. Right now I still have me official acocount, AND have 2 private servers I play regularly and both have over 1000 players on at any given time. The owners make a nice living to say the least.

So although I don't hate salem or anything, I would play and pay for h&h any day over salem.

Bob dole dislikes that you bumped this dying thread, however he approves your point.

Early world exploit: Put your hearthfire inside a cave, then hold shift to position a claim right in front of a cave. After 8 hours the claim will be unbreakable. Since your hearthfire is inside the cave, you can still get back inside, and leave, but nobody will be able to enter, effectively making you unraidable for the first 3-7 days. Enjoy

PS - which 2 RO pservers do you play? 1k+ players is pretty rare these days. Only one I know is talon and they're just ugh.

Rebirth RO has 1632 online as of 5 minutes ago. Atlantis Ro floats around 2K , but is spanish language. Lumina and Essence both float around 500ish. There's quite alot of activity in RO private servers. Just have to look around for the really heavy populated ones. I play Rebirth the most and almost always over 1250. And god help the server during WOE where it can spike to 2500.lol So there's certianly an audience out there that cares more about gameplay than they do 3dish graphics..lol H&H doesnt get the attention it deserves for sure.

This by a fucking mile. And I'm saying that as a regular Salem player. Isometric 2d of H&H is just far better and pleasant to look at.

2.0/2.5d isometric games will be around forever, its a niche genre with a healthy and growing fan base. People who already enjoy 2.5d games aren't going anywhere, its something we enjoy and appreciate - plus - new people discover 2.5d gaming every day. And it's not a me vs. them style choice where groups of people and their preferences butt up against one another like they do in other activities - such as the silly Linux vs. Windows vs. Mac ego and tension - we just don't have that sort of smacktalk swirling around in extended 2.5d and 3.0d graphical gaming *communities.

I'd pay Loftar/Jorb cash ducats to actively develop HnH. $25 per character with an annual $120 subscription fee sounds good to me. I'd pay more for 24/7 GM policing of the game world. Eh, thats the rub, are people willing to pay to play.?

Edit: *bay12 is a great example of the fusion between 2.5/3.0 communities.

I'm loathe to admit it but I'd be willing to shell out $15 a month for HnH. As for GM police, I've voiced my opinion on them elsewhere but they would only work if they're 100% tight lipped, their identities are not revealed to anyone, and they are paid to make sure that they're doing their job. Volunteers just don't cut it for the type of information that they'd have access to. I might even go so far as to say they shouldn't be allowed to play the game, if only for fairness reasons.

Well, oh that varies. After buying Heroes of Might and Magic 4 and Black&White 2 Im definately not very willing to pay for games that I can not test before. The worst sequals of some really great games.

There is topia online, It soudns great so far, but I'm not willing to buy a onlinegame anymore which is kinda "entry fee" to figure out it might be rubbish. I rather pay a low constant rate, because here I can give kind of a "feedback" which means, I pay, because I like it, I pay not anymore, because I don't like it anymore. Or just don't have enough time. So a kind of "Premium" is a nice thing, because I can test without paying and can then value the game by paying money.
But I do not like games that force people into premium, where premium advantages restrict too many game aspects or premiums means you have a significant advantages.

But actually, for HNH I would not pay. The laggs are a bit too annoying, and together with those Issues, theat I get logged out at specific areas, or entering my house I have not much joy in this game. Even if the whole concept of the game is great. If I now imagine, I would have spend $10 for it as buy price, I would regret it now.

Thats why I do not understand why they do not provide a legacy version, that runs stable and so generates some small constant donations. Because when i enjoy a game, I'm willing to spend money to keep things running.

btw, when you guys like sandbox stuff, test Stranded 2 http://www.strandedonline.de/ It's only sungle player, but with some of the mods, it has a deep crafting. Part 3 is actually in developement.

Also I would suggest you WURM Online, some graphics there are still cheap, but it has deep crafting and you can without premium have access to 95% of what the game offers. They recently added multystory houses. So if you are ready to give up your life for an Ego perspective extreme crafting sandbox game, with famring, animal breeding and loads of stuff, check it out http://www.wurmonline.com/about.php

But its way more time consuming than HnH where I don't have to worry too much about decay and stuff dieying while I'm offline.
In my opinion, its the best sandbox/crafting Game so far. I hope, one day, when I get my retirement, this game still exists ^^
But I came here, to fnd a more simple "wurm online" which I found, but doesn't run properly  and of course this happend after I ste up my little timerhouse and my little farm.

*Eeeeks* $25 per character  ok that might solve some alt army problems but would make my hermit life very very expensive :P And i guess for those players that don't have their own income (kids) or whose parents have low income it would just be another (digital) divide...

one point with fees is that it would put (more) pressure ("i paid and so i demand") on Jorb and Loftar and i'm not sure if they want that with HnH (beside the ones they do by themselves)

I'd better like a sytem of organized donations with an own subforum where you find informations about costs, donations made, how much more needed, maybe even donators and maybe even trusted national collectors (players) (for those that don't have/use paypall or even a bank account)

sure i sound very optimistic with a "social" model where those that can/ want to donate more than others do so and others even donate nothing but i think it would suit HnH best :D

GMs are another question ( maybe just one is needed: "The Hand of Loftar and Jorb" - voted by players?!?)

GM policing is a sticky wicket, get one bad cop and the whole system unwinds - especially when PVP is involved. Both EVE and Everquest have had epic GM/Dev corruption scandals and the respective forum threads make for great reading.
