My advice too and it's definately worth coming back, even with the ruins, lots of places to explore. Although I won't deny there are plenty of abandoned claims, there are people who have declaimed before they left, esp in my area.

Btw, a big thank you to those of you who did declaim. Very thoughtful. :D

Kept my claim up. Got raided as the bw wasn't complete. They took some nice stuff but left me plenty of med quality to rebuild with. Happily mending walls and gathering steel to finish off the bw before putting the hermitage into overdrive and cranking on some quality.

Yes. Been testing it for a few days.
It has a sort of apocalyptic feel that I find both creepy and oddly enjoyable. Lots of ruins and sleeping skeletons.

id say its worth it. i know v/p claims are around, but you can remove pclaims with vclaims depending on the size, and vclaims can be destroyed if the auth is low enough. you just need to look for a somewhat abandoned area to build up in and then take the other stuff down and clear it out imo ^^

besides, raiding old abandoned places is the best part ^^

If you don't want to come back then more resources and territory for me.
Early world exploit: Put your hearthfire inside a cave, then hold shift to position a claim right in front of a cave. After 8 hours the claim will be unbreakable. Since your hearthfire is inside the cave, you can still get back inside, and leave, but nobody will be able to enter, effectively making you unraidable for the first 3-7 days. Enjoy

I like the whole urban-wasteland thing, to an extent. Rummaging around in abandoned cities is fun until someone kills you.
That being said, I think it is worth coming back and playing.

Just use a disposable alt from another claim. Anything worth keeping can be dropped off or picked up later.

Stolen items is stolen items, they can be tracked. My recommendation is always to steal raw goods.

Just to be clear here - I am not advocating stealing, I would not steal from an active player.

However, I did induldge in my fair share of exploring abandoned claims, for which I used a disposable alt and picked up the goods once the scents had expired. In all honesty, apart from some much needed bricks and some medium q tin, I never found anything worth taking.

I have also returned to both claims since players have been returning in order to compensate them if they were back - but so far they are still abandoned.
