Well, once upon a time, consoles were still better than PCs for the purpose they were dedicated to, however. These days, that seems to be a long time ago, though. :|

Ha if the purpose is scamming people i think they serve that purpose, but as you explained, they do lack in power. However, I think the main problem with consoles is that they cannot be upgraded willy-nilly like a pc. That is, in my opinion, the main reason why up-to-date pcs consistently outperform consoles.

Honestly i dont know how the new xbox one or ps4 will compare, because a big factor that we don't yet know is the operating systems that run them(besides what fluff they say about 3-tiered architectures or whatever.) And if you ever learned about Android phones and their 2nd biggest flaw, the operating system is key(i think :/ )

I dunno. There is a case to be made that the stability of the respective consoles' hardware platforms is a good thing. The case I wanted to make, however, is that they don't even compete with current PCs.

Yeah, which is a shame. Why pay 300-400$ for a machine less powerful than it could, even should, be

Because there are ppl thinking: oh great no hazzles with all that techie stuff - no OS to setup and care for, no drivers i have to update...

I like to fiddle with the machines but i know a lot of ppl that got consoles just because of that...

I'd probably spend more time messing around with menus by waving my hands then actually playing games on that thing ;)
