For some reason I don't agree with this,
Well, I'm one of those hardcore RPG / MMORPG gamers out there, I've played 'at least' 50 different type of RPGs / MMORPGs through my life and still increasing
Usually, it would only takes me few first hours or for complex game, 3-4 days max of time played to know whats ALL the system, here and that is (including googling research, fan-made guides, etc)

But, wait...
For HnH, i feel after i spent 100 hours gametime, i didn't learn any of important shit that you need to know
200 hours gametime ? i only feel i get 65% of game contents experience
300 hours ? yeah probably, 80% [the more you know the more you have question, trust me]
400 hours ? 85-90%

Up until now, when i was still in college, i play at least 8 hours back then, it was 2 years ago
I'm not sure how many hours if all of them were to be summed up. Probably 500hrs+ 600hrs+ ? Not sure

W5, I was a NEET back there, my average time could be like 5 hours a day, maybe more, no less
i don't really remember how much i played, as far as i remember it was around 2-3 months
so here...

raw math calculation (W6 I played from 24 Oct 2011 to 14 Apr-ish 2013)
[6 Months + 14 Days] x Lets's say avg.playtime 4 hours a day (probably more but i'm sure no less)
(180 days x 4 hours) + 14 = 734 hours gametime  (not yet added by W5 gametime experience)

Conclusion is, and up until now I still has many more system and shits that I didn't know (for example, some accurate formulas) and i'm sure that most people does as well.
Everything the light touches, is my kingdom.

Excuse me but you must be a slow learner then, sure its so complex you can forget things but you dont learn 'new things' all the time after a while.
I also wouldnt so easily say this normally but, 'Well, I'm one of those hardcore RPG / MMORPG gamers out there', man, you're like a hipster.

Actually, I think HnH is just like Ranma says in the highlighted paragraph, I still learn new things, not everyday, but often enough and I am not a slow learner.

Well, maybe when it comes to combat, lol, but in fairness to myself, I don't experience combat enough to be fully understanding of it and it does appear to be quite a complicated system compared to other games i've played.

Also, a lot depends on what you do in-game, for example, this world I am living underground for the first time and consequently have learnt new things in that regard that I was unaware of previously, cave-ins don't damage buildings was one of them. :D

As for the formulas - I see long-term players still working them out and asking questions!

Wouldn't it be easier to say that you know most of the basics?
i mean i have been around for 3 worlds now and i still have trouble with the math but the basic commands and information is easy to pick up.
(IE) per*forg. = what you can see; where something like the math for say steel and looms are a little more complex.

I'm an old player and i know 30% of the game.

'Cuz i refuse to learn dat damned battle system. Is a waste of mind all those numbers! Also, when you know how to fight, you usually try to Fight. And so you die more often.
I've never learned how to fight so all my "fights" was just a matter of RUN., not wasting time to fight back. I gain time to run more. XD
I'm a great master of run!

At last..a master for what i've experienced.
If we consider that i've been in a fight just 4 times in 6 years... not so many chance to grow my experience then...

And i wish you the same "boring" day time!! XD

To be honest, I've been learning the combat system for a long time and I can say I can fight well. And yet, the only times I've used said skill, aside from petty raids on people with almost half of my combat stats, and spars, is ONE time when I got attacked by two gankers who looked like noobs. All the other times I would run away. What I'm trying to say is, even if you know the combat system you'll most likely run for your whole life. It's simply an asset in rare situations to know the combat system. So go ahead and learn it! :)

Like some avg/below-avg players, combat for me is currently just the use of bloodlust, punches, charge and then wait till 0 defence for sting. Also include opportunity knocks and call thunder for hunting out.
My head currently just starts spinning out when trying to understand seize the day, sting like bee, float like btrfly etc. Infact I rarely concider using them. But hopefully I'l learn it as I gain experience.
No trees were killed by this post, but a large number of electrons were terribly inconvenienced.
