I can only imagine how badly things must be for you to leave your country or origin (I am assuming this is your country of origin.) The only advice I can give you is plan. I mean really plan the sh*t out of what you're gonna do the minute you get there, even have some jobs lined up if it's possible so you can start working the minute you get there. I've never moved out of country but I'm sure it's much worse than moving several states, and if I've learned one thing it's that people don't care if you don't have a job or where your next meal will come from. They don't understand that you don't have the luxury of waiting on applications to go through as you spend your last dollar on food and lodging. The world is a cold and heartless place.

However, never give up even when things seem their darkest. Prove them wrong. Show that you can make it work. Grab them by the shirt collar and say, "I'm here for a job, now you can either give me the interview now or you can give it to me later through a police negotiator." Alright, don't literally do that but you get the idea I hope. Be affirmative and confident. Don't forget you have friends here. I'm sure there are people who would help you if you need it.

Good luck from my side aswell!

As borka said I wanted to give you same harmless advice, since I'm big fan of cooking and cooking shows, and have seen lot of restaurants in sveden runned by ***ić, kebabi, čevapi etc., so I'm sure places like that can be found and if they don't have job where you are looking, they can give good advice aswell in your native :)

Wow. I wish I had good advise to share, but the only thing I can think of off the top of my head is to avoid Stockholm (and probably the other larger cities as well), since it's virtually impossible to get an apartment for hire here unless you stand in line for years (or pay absurd amounts of monies for a second-hand contract). As an aside, I've gathered that the immigration housing program that you apparently don't have access to is a large (but far from lone) culprit in causing that problem, since they have legal rights to reserve large numbers of rental apartments.

If anything, though, there's a larger road construction project going on connecting to the northern entrance to Stockholm, and I've seen barracks and stuff around it, so it's not unthinkable that they offer boarding with an employment, and they're probably used to working with people who don't know Swedish. I've no idea how one would go about applying, however. Technically, I don't even know whether they're hiring, but I guess a project like that is always hiring to some degree.

I would advice to look into working in Denmark and live in Malmö a city south of Sweden. Its 1h train to Copenhagen that is always hiering people for work as Denmark is in high demand of workforce.

I grew up in Malmö and can say its one of the most international or rather multicultural citys of sweden and you will find yourself fitting well in as there are alot of people from Bosnia living there. But finding jobs in Malmö itself will not be very easy, neither will you find any apartments without waiting in queue for a year or two. But aside from that work is plentiful in Copenhagen.

Just a few advice on places you could work in would be the Casino if you have any experience working as a dealer or work as a bartender as I know alot of people in both Malmö or Copenhagen that hire people for that kind of work. If your desperate enough you wont be without a job but you might have a bit of a hard time if you have exactly nothing to live on for the few weeks till you get your first paycheck.

Yeah, look into that for sure. You also don't have to live in Malmö and work in Copenhagen necessarily, if you can find something in Helsingör you could live in Helsingborg for instance.

I'll also leave a Weird Free Money Advice to people travelling from other European countries to Sweden:
A shady first order of business could be to bring with you as much cheap alcohol as possible from Europe, and undercut the liquor monopoly in Sweden. For example, a 70cl Explorer Vodka is 188 SEK at Systembolaget, but 88 SEK in the German border store. Of course, in Skåne those bottles would probably be harder to pawn off but the farther north you go the higher the demand. There are no hard limits for how much liquor you're allowed to bring in, but the soft limit is at 10 liters of liquor, 20 liters of strong wine, 90 liters of wine and 110 liters beer. More than that and they'll figure it's for commercial purposes. ;) Anyway, because of the monopoly there are always people who forgot to buy liquor during opening hours, so there's always a demand during certain hours, but I've never tried pawning it off to random people, that might be hard.

Over/Under on the amount of days before Potjeh is selling his sweet, sweet orifices on the sidewalk for a free WiFi signal?

In all seriousness, Good luck man! I moved to a big city almost 3 years ago and I have to imagine the difference between South Florida and Chicago is something similar to moving from Bosnia to...well anywhere that isn't Bosnia.

Sweden? yeah right. Can you get a ticket to America? You could probably be working right off of the plane. Be happy to help you get a job here if you can fly here.

Edit: I worked with a couple of Bosnian girls for a while post 9/11..... lot of Bosnians and Croats resettled in my hometown after the war and the subsequent years. (Baton Rouge, LA) Oh, and it was just voted the most rapidly rising city economically in the country.
