There is absolutely no way to be 100% certain. The isolated recruiting village can be helpful but also very annoying to the recruited one.

All one needs to do is look up Guiding Hand Social Club. Proof that if pirates want your stuff, they'll get your stuff.

there's no real way of knowing, it's good to be careful, but in the end u don't know who you end up with just from asking a few questions etc. Reading their forum posts is useful in assessing their play style, and character, and sometimes age..and recruitment towns are annoying.

Just do what u can, be cautious, but in the end it's a fun game.
