I actually quite enjoyed bumping into other people in-game but I'm probably a bit more gung-ho than most people. Most of the time people are willing to work with you or are scared out of their minds to see you. Sometimes you can never work past that initial fear but it's still great fun.

I started with other people, until the guy who got me into the game told me to act as a lure and get a bear to the shore so he can shoot it, but I didn't want to (I just bought carpentry!) so he shot me.
Ever since that happened, I've been avoiding or murdering people I see lol

Don't get me wrong, I've been ambushed outside of my gates, I've had villagemates open the gates for raiders, I've had villagers attack each other, I've had villagemates steal from the village and lie about it, I've been surrounded and threatened by random passerbys, and I've usually done all of this with a twinge of excitement and glory in my eye. Bad stuff happens but if it didn't, the game would be boring. I don't know about you but I like things to occur other than 9 to 5 farming and for that human interaction is necessary. If you're going to attack me, attack me, but that's still better than the quotidian.
