He drowned? Anyway, next time tell him it's good to get swimming, but bad to use it until you have ~50 con. Swimming is very useful if, for example, while killing a bear you accidentally get off the boat and get pinned in the river, you need to swim around the bear to your boat. OR if someone tells you to enter his boat and then starts punching you, you just swim out, he follows you, you get back into boat.

Spent some time looking for animals to tame, but the search was unfruitful. Holding off on the bwall to see if they are still interested in the game after a few more days.

this is awesome, very nice, and kewl of you to offer this kind of assistance to a fledgling group, who seem to have their heads on right(well all but the swimmer lol) i dont know how common or uncommon this kind of effort is, but regardles you should be applauded.
