That was said during the lag storms of last world. then I agreed, now I don't.

Haven as it is now is a perfectly playable game. Why wait until it's gone to let people know about it?

The reality is that the devs don't care about the player base. This isn't a game made for the players, it's agame made by the devs for the devs. It doesn't matter to them if the player count is 300 or 1200, they don't gain anything by it.

They have shown time and time again that they won't implement things to keep the players happy, they just do what they want and see what happens.

Haven is their game
It is a hobby.

That's what I think anyway.

At a per day (annnnnnd pre paid) cost we can advertize on lots and lots of sites! I just happen to have some money qued up on a Project Wonderful account. I could look into it.

It just doesn't have the appeal that other games do. Such as the lack of saving. If haven was being actively worked on it would be a different story but it isnt. It's stagnant and the only people left are those tough enough. There just not any room to be a new player. It would be nice if the community banded together and promised to help new players but that will never happen. In the end it's the community that's makes the game and the community that drives people away.

It has the popularity it deserves. It's still subdued because the game has been in a very stunted state for the last year or so (especially during Salem's development and launch). So for the timescale the lack of growth has been detrimental in the growth of Haven, but that's alright too. It will probably always have a core playerbase.

The only thing that might be problematic in the future is the rise of more "survival sandbox" multiplayer games coming out of the woodwork lately, like Rust, DayZ, etc. That might start diluting the market and Haven's adorable but "old" art style and 2d layout might turn people away (them being casual gfxbabbies notwithstanding). But in most cases Haven does things no other game does (I was poorly and amatuerishly developing a small MMO in a similar vein when I found H&H and stopped development because H&H did most of what I was trying to do), and I think that will always have an underlying appeal.

We've seen a fast raise in player count to 1400 + after a known YouTube game channel promoted it - it dropped very fast as it's "too hard" for a lot of people ... also it's still alpha = testing ...

Doesn't mean no one stayed. We should keep trying. The game is better when a higher percentage of players are noob level.

Yeah, and that's the reason why not much people stay here. They get overrun by veteran players who know how to actualy fight. You've gotta have a certain gaming mentality to stay after you've been killed in a permadeath game, especially this one, cause you sometimes work months on one single character.
Hope you have a great day

Exactly. That's why we need to try.
