And I've sold like 20 Jorbonzola through my stall without a single theft. The trick is to load only one or two more valuable items at a time.

Yeah people won't steal food really, since you need it in such bulk.
But any weapons and armors of good QL would be stolen so fast.

Well yeah, that's obviously for direct trade. Though I must say I saw some rings at Wayneville stalls stay for days without getting stolen, and they were eventually bought.

Sure, all the stall-sellable stuff is low value, but it adds up because you tend to have a lot of it. I've made like several thousands of copper coins since I started.

Don't you have a copper mine? I can make 10,000 coins worth in 30 minutes or so.

Yeah, but this I'm getting for stuff that I like making. I don't like mining. The whole point of trade is that it lets you do only things you like and buy other stuff from people that enjoy doing other things.

Where is there a guide on the prices I should charge for baked goods?

I suggest you charge whatever you want. If it sells to quickly, then raise the price next time. If it sells too slowly, then lower the price. Basic principles of economics in action.

moneychanger is the best shop

now if only there was an easier way to get coin in the first place, like buyer stalls to go with the seller stalls

Hehe, I feel like such a Jew for running a moneychanger.

Anyway, I was thinking about the buyer stalls myself, and I realized they're not needed if everyone just builds a shop. You can get the coins at your own shop and use them at the other shops. Supply of coin might be a bit low ATM, but Brodgar is pumping coins into the economy, and I myself will probably mint all the copper I get my hands on. When we get enough coins in the economy, the shop prices will rise to realistic levels (currently stuff is too cheap because not many people have coins), so they'll be a decent way to acquire metal.

But the real beauty is in just having the same money keep changing hands forever. As it changes hands, misc byproducts will find their way to the people that need them, thus increasing everyone's productivity and making everyone richer. For example, I went hunting several times just to get intestines for rennet. Getting into Mordor and finding a deer or a bear (boar intestines suck) takes a lot of time (which could be used to make more cheese), and I end up with a ton of products I don't really need. With a developed market I can just buy the intestines from a dedicated hunter, who now probably throws that stuff away.

Another nice thing that comes with a developed market is that it makes recovery from theft easier. Coins are more inventory efficient than vast majority of items (seriously, name one thing that's worth more than 100 gold coins and takes just one slot), so you can more easily keep a hidden stash / altvault. Once you get hit by a thief, you just take the coins from the stash, go to the marketplace, and buy replacements for all the critical items you lost.

Capitalism: It's the shit.

Good to hear that the stalls are seeing some use. Hopefully we'll get a chance to expand on the feature.

Ironic of you to say that, considering you have a thread named Cut-throat Capitalism and a donate button
