It is how I found out about the game while I was looking for an alternative to EVE that had the same "Losing is fun" attitude and rogue-like feel. There's also been a ton of Goons and 4channers here, and even a small following on reddit (though I don't know of the status of any towns they may have developed over the years).

OCD and autism is requirement to play it. All that micromanagement, stupid dwarfs demands and other !!FUN!! shit is fun.

I have to agree. I can tell you I am borderline OCD and show some Asperger-like symptoms. Which are you? :P

Mostly I like making things burn, though. You don't get into trouble for burning down virtual houses unlike in real life. ¦]

I don't really know if i actually have some minor OCD, but once i get like 50 dwarfs things get too cluttered and all those jobless dwarfs just make me lose it.

I have roughly 1 year of DF experience under my belt. This is my last fortress since my 1 year break (those do wonders)

I have been doing more adventure mode ever since 6 months ago, and now I am willing to go play house and engage in jolly cooperation! Enlist me please!

I dunno what you guys are going on about OCD and autism. I simply started playing the game for the challenge of learning it and no more. I was hooked once I found out the complexity hidden behind the terrible graphics.

I think it ties in more with intelligence, since aspergers is nearly always tied with giftedness, and they would therefore be better at wrapping their minds around the game.

Great... Been geeking out on a few days of beta for EQ Landmark just to check it out (still a loooong way to go to being a game, but what's there looks good), and now this is out... what a week!! :ugeek:

Well, I am going to do a blind go at this. I'm not going to use a mod to check the ores or anything, all I know is that there is multiple shallow metals on one corner and multiple deep metals in another.

So I chose a decent area that looks good, I'm not sure if this will have the same amount of 'fun' as the original fort ballsacks but we will see. I embarked with 2 wood cutters, 2 miners, a herbalist, fisherdwarf, and a blacksmith / craftsdwarf. I named the dwarfs randomly with people who commented on here, and I brought a bunch of ducks c:

Since this place is temperate, there will be seasons, but I don't think that will bother us.

I'm going to stop right here so I don't do any bad moves, I'm not sure if I chose a pretty bad area or not, like this is only the beginning, we can easily change if we want?

I am really bad at setting up military and it just makes mattes worse when I stat fiddling with uniforms and shit. Also never figured out where I put jobless dwarfs when I for example already have 6 crafts dwarfs and all those item qualities! Oh god my autism!

Looking at the concept of this thread I decided why not take a look at Dwarf Fortress. I have to say I was disappointing by the archaic style & graphics, I was born just after such things were left behind - and in the area where super pixelated 8bit type things were scrapped so it doesn't have that nostalgia effect on me that it might have on others.

That said, I can totally see the rogue like randomization and concept of the game (and Fort Ballsacks concept) to be a blast for those who are fine with that kind of art style. Does anyone know of a game similar to Dwarf Fortress but has better graphics? And by better I mean anything close to Haven and Hearth will probably do it for me. Sorry to intrude on this thread if asking that question here is the wrong place to do so.
