It used to be that simple theft carried little risk as long as you could discuss things with others. Honestly most people were just wary of having dangerous neighbors and as long as they were comfortable with you then there was no conflict. Seriously, it's a pumpkin, no one would spazz out and murder you for that under normal circumstances. Over the last few worlds large factions have gotten bored and begun hunting players for the fun of it though, so there is some danger that a random player will find the scents and murder you for the sake of murdering you.

That said? There is nothing you can reasonably do to protect yourself at this point so don't worry about it and go have fun. Death is something that sorta happens in the hearthlands and if you fret about it too much you'll turn into a paranoid mess like the rest of us. =)

My, oh my. You certainly have a rather harsh outlook. I offered what I have done not as a prayer for forgiveness, but to explain that I had to do what I needed to to survive. Being new to the game, I didn't know of the forums until today. If I get killed for stealing a pumpkin? Then I deserve that, however, I did so out of necessity and did not take more than I absolutely had to.

I have a policy of repaying what I take, I refuse to leave a debt unresolved. If we are to be enemies because my survival was important to me, then I accept the consequences. I hope that isn't the case.
