Slightly unrelated, but when the news of this reached the Australian Parliament, there was a bit of a lockdown and extra security kangaroo's transported to the scene.
And all our *cough*leaders*cough* talked about how Canada is family, it could have been us, terror threat is real etc etc. But what caught my ear is that a bunch of new security measures had just been rolled onto the agenda of a security meeting set up to "Discuss the threat of hackers being able to access the use of our traffic lights, water and electrical mains" Due to something along the lines of increase of talk of such things online over the past year. <Quotes from the news reporter about 20 minutes ago> But now they're concerned about ISIS attacks before or after the G20 that's going on in Brisbane sometime soon. (Because the ottawa shooter is being shown without doubt as islamic, ISIS, the reincarnation of Bin-Laden, and any other thing they're trying to vilify at the moment, we'll most likely soon get an update of our Prime sinister saying he was also a feminist activist.)

But basically the moral of the story is that our country is holding large security meetings about Watch Dogs being real. Whenever they drive their cars they go through great pains to drive around water pipes. Because at any moment the itunes store might release an app allowing people to blow them up. The fear is real.

-RCMP Commissioner Bob Paulson says that Michael Zehaf-Bibeau, the gunman who rampaged on Parliament Hill on Wednesday, was not one of 90 "high-risk" individuals being investigated

-Paulson said that Zehaf-Bibeau was connected to someone "known to" the RCMP, explaining that an email from him was found on the hard drive of someone charged in another investigation

-Police sources say they have seized the belongings of Michael Zehaf-Bibeau, the gunman who rampaged on Parliament Hill Wednesday, while residents of a downtown shelter that had welcomed him say he told them to pray because the "world is ending."

-Two days ago, he asked for help to buy a car after his own had broken down and the people at his shelter didn't understand why he needed a car so desperately

"I overheard him trying to buy a car … a small car, because his car had a misfire, he said. He wanted to buy a car, desperately, and he was trying to get help from everybody in here to get a car."

"People were trying to help him, but we didn't understand what he was up to," Clothier said. "He acted bizarre, he did. Very bizarre."
Meanwhile, the parents of the gunman issued a statement Thursday saying their son "was lost and did not fit in."

-He was denied a passport and was seen complaining, saying he was angry with Canada and he was trying to leave the country

He was 25 and the other guy involved in the hit-and-run a few days earlier was 24 but they don't think the two crimes are connected, for whatever reason

Two crimes were related in that both the guys were Francophones who were alienated from society and found a militant direction to take their disaffection. They both were dabbling seriously in conversions to Islam. They had no real connection to ISIS although they wanted to. They were guys a lot like Marc Lepine, struggling in life to manage at all and feeling they needed to get revenge for their failures. There was probably some mental illness, quite likely treatable if only they had not slipped too far into the paranoia to prevent it. The first guy had an intervention from his family and the imam at the mosque where he attended trying to convince him that he was going off the rails, but he flipped out instead. Both guys are described as behaving bizarrely and unlike themselves - sounds like psychotic breaks to me.

So we have no terrorist conspiracies, just your usual poor nuts going on a rampage. It happens here too.

There was something similar to this close to where I live. At Washington (Florida) High School, one of the students opened fire on other people in the building. And, that person was the homecoming prince... (Link: http://www.weartv.com//news/features/top-stories/stories/washington-state-high-school-shooter-identified-51033.shtml#.VEsvKvldV4M
