ive been pronouncing it "harth", as "heart", didnt think of "earth".
but... not like we(japanese) always distinguish harth from hurth easily 8-) they are both "haasu" in our sound system :p
hurt vs heart or heard vs hard is one of the common things we used to get questioned on english tests at school, meaning, lots of us cant tell the difference.

reminded me of a movie scene, where a boy was trying to pronounce th and always ended up with t. its a slavic thing, correct?
[th] isnt that hard for us, but seems we get to hear it as [s] instead and say nossing for nothing.

Sweidsh doesn't have the th sound either, so a lot of Swedes accidentally go with "f" instead, myself included if I have to make a quick change between Swedish and English. Pronounciation can be a bitch :(

I've been pronouncing it heart for like 2 years then "realized" it's wrong and started pronouncing it hurt, until now. Back to heart it is.

Yes, it's a common Germanic thing originally, it's just that everyone but the English and the Icelandic have gotten rid of this barbaric custom. ^^

That said, while my own English is far from perfect, pronouncing th-sounds isn't a problem I've ever had. It's not like it's that much different from pronouncing an s.

Quite enjoy being English thank you !!

I have always pronounce it as Harth, but i can see why people would say Herth! Easy mistake especially if English is not your first language (I don't think american's can quite get used to it either, haha :D )

thought every american student hears of hearth cooking in a history class or sees it in historical/colonial museums or something. or is it just another thing that americans ignore and let the foreigners learn as a part of american heritage culture tour?

@borka
thats the same video as the one i linked... just not with subs and mine had japanese title on it :twisted:
regarding slavic comment, i was thinking of th turning into t/d, not to s/z, but i just remembered irish ppl do that th to t/d too.
