Many reasons really. Lack of time to invest, wanting to win in a game that does not stroke your ego with accolades, rage quitting over errors and being raided, not willing to wait for the next update....

Yes, but one would think that the people who start to play this game are just well aware of the purpose or goal of this game... making your own story.

People play for different reasons and different goals though, :)

And, knowing it's possible to be raided and lose everything is different to actually being raided and losing everything, or killed, or w/e misfortune has befallen you. It's understandable, I think, that when it happens there are those who don't think it's worth losing days/wks/months of hard work. (depending on their perspective)

I lost my best char to a troll not long ago and I was going to rage quit, not at first, but when I'd inherited and saw the difference, lol, ............ but only overnight, I was back feeding her up the next day. :)

... Just saw a live hearthling (that was not me) walking passed my farm :o ...

(Great time to harvest secondhand stuff from abandoned plots)

Anyway, it's really sad to watch this game slowly running out of population.

From time to time, like every three or four days I come across players, yet they're all hermits. I can't remember when I've seen a live and working village or town.

i guess its the few and the proud that remain after many tests of trials and errors and most importantly, patience imo

If you want to see ppl, the best place I've found to find them is the ring of brodgar, I have an old base close by that I no longer play after the char there has now died a total of 5 times, lol, but I log on from time to time to see whats new and seem to meet other players wandering around virtually every time.

I will add that a lot of them around there are not friendly though, so proceed with caution. :)

I don't specifically miss the people, what I miss is activity. My days are almost like walking around [while playing "travel"], scavenging ruins... it kinda feels like I'm in a postapocaliptic world. :D

Well, I have my kin list and I have a few neighbours left.

But, yeah, it does feel like that in some area's I travel to ..... but I love that, lol, it's my dream to be a sole survivor in a post-apocalyptic world, well, for a year maybe, maybe less, until it got boring or cold -

 - yeah don't go to the ring of brodgar, that was bad advice even with a warning -
