Not trying to troll, but haven't all the reviews and such been mediocre at best, anyway?

and this isn't the first time Albion has come up here. viewtopic.php?f=7&t=32464&p=481388&hilit=Albion#p481387

As the game is still in development, I'll leave off any judgements on cash shops, game mechanics, etc myself, but I won't be playing it if it works like a facebook game.

You never have to leave a station with a PLEX in EVE. You can use it from anywhere in game, making it 100% safe. The only reason to move it is if you want to try to move it from a market where it's selling really low to one where it's selling high, and then it's like moving BPOs--you plan carefully and execute with minimal errors to avoid these sorts of stupid losses. Compare it to other games where if you die, you lose your cash shop item(s), and there's no way of avoiding taking those items into the game world if you don't want to risk losing them.

It's still my point of view as well. But I felt bad because in that moment I realized again that the majority of cash shop games are simply crap and that unseemly cash shop practices outweigh the user-friendly exceptions by far.

There is a problem when you make nice, theoretically sound, generalized statements under the background of empirical proof that predominantly shows ugly developments instead.

I'm prone to say that people who play this kind of deserve their fate. At least in regard to children this seems a bit unfair though.

I bought one of those alpha-included packs, but then managed to get a refund because the game was just way too boring. Mindless gathering of resources and crafting, no real personal longterm objective and ungodly boring combat, which is a given since the game is meant to be played on pads as well.

Well, I will say I'm prone to trying them out for a few hours, at least, but if the "free" game play is nothing but trial or as stated by Teck, I have no problems dropping a game like a bad habit. My drive is littered with games I've played 2-3 hours and I can't be bothered to clean them out. (Probably should... my TB drive is getting full.)

That said, I do think I signed up for an invite, but no way you'll get me to pay for early access on it. I think I've payed early access only only a couple of games so far, and I'm 50/50 on whether it was worth it.

Yeah, the early access model is getting me down. I can't even begin to list off the number of games that have seemingly stopped development with blackouts from the devs, fell short of most/all of their promises, or just sat in limbo for forever. Sure, you have the exception like Don't Starve, which was an awesome game that delivered and then kept delivering, but that's the exception and not the rule.

I think the last straw for me was Starbound. Sure the game has tons of promise and they've been doing unstable updates for the past year, but the game hasn't really moved very much from where it was before even with all of that development. Tons of hype and lots of updates from the devs and the game is still experiencing major imbalances in basic combat like it was at the early access launch despite them saying that they've worked on it constantly. =(

Starbound was one of the big ones I had bought into, and yeah, I'm more or less in agreement with you. Minecraft I never bought into early, but have since enjoyed it, and it was nothing but creative mode in its earliest purchasable stages. If I could scratch together the extra money, I'd buy into the EQ Next alpha. (I've gotten a few week long passes at random, and it's shaping up nice. Can't say if it'll pay off in the long run as they're adding combat and such.)

Funny thing is... as we're discussing this, I found an email about Albion with the promotion. I don't check my email but every few days, maybe once a week, so can't say when it was sent. If I was the dev and had items like the cape that could be stolen, I'd put some sort of personalization on it such as, "item awarded to homeswjoshua for support in the Alpha testing." If it was ever lost, a person would know where it came from. Could add some interesting drama to the game.
