You need to get to know your area and then it's just a process of looking for local landmarks, it seems a daunting task at first but if you know your area well it shouldn't be too difficult. I find mountains and thickets extremely helpful, followed by shapes of local swamps and lakes. Good luck!

I live a fair distance, but not too far from AD and York

My area sees noob growth in spurts, the ones who build by the river get killed by some loser living in the Murder City vault.

I spawned around there on my first character. I distinctly remember roaming outside the walls of York before being mauled by a bear. Was fun.

I settled in the far east. I lived in brodgar for a short bit (was a little late to the party and was already falling apart). Both were pretty boring and lonely. I should log in and see if my eastern base is still there or if someone smashed the claim and it's rotted to the ground.
