Welcome to haven. If I were actively playing I would consider taking you in :)

Be careful not to drown!

Right now survival is the goal, but ultimately you should make choices that'll contribute best to the story you'd like to tell someday.

Hi, welcome to Haven. :)

My tip would be to explore and get to know your area well and, as Teck said, get to know any neighbours you may have. If you are lucky they will be friendly and be a great local source for initial trading.
Try and find an open cave entrance and start mining asap for that elusive iron, the sooner you can start metal production the better, meanwhile establishing a good farming area to provide you with food and crafted curios.
You really need to run two chars in this game one nature based the other industry based, further down the line you will find a couple of alts handy, especially once you have gate keys and items of value.

Good luck and have fun! :D

At this time of the game, having a palissade increase the risk of been rob or killed, dont do that.
If you dont have one, people will go to your camp and see you are a newbie with nothing worth to steal.
If you have one, they will bash it in seconds fearing something dangerous behind, or a discreat vault.
And for the brick wall, even if someone rob you every thing you have ( that will dont occure ), the work to replace it will be inferior to the trouble of building the BW.
And if you fear for your life, anybody could kill you with one hit of a slig from behind the wall.
Play it cool, feed some alts to store valuable things and continue to play if you get kill.
Live with just a claim, near a river, so if somebody do something naughty there will be neigbours to kill the bad guy.
And perhaps like me someone will come and give you freindship and a loooots of very good stuff, dont hide yourself !
