What keeps you playing?

Checking scents if the perpetrator goes outside the walls every 20 minutes kept me playing for the past year, but got bored of that + many decent people that I played with have quit. Nothing keeps me playing no more I guess until hafen or a new world

Expeditions on salem is coming out in a few days, will be probably playing there for a while.

The building and grinding aspect maybe? Planning your fortress out and carrying it out, farming, industry, etc. Or these; Recruiting people. The backstab, the massacre, the drowning so your enemy don't get your loot. The smacktalk, the alts army and smacktalk when you invade a village and killed their main. The guy who killed me, asked me to spawn on his hs, and gave me necro cloak + good stuff, literally leaving me better than before I died. And more; Calling my friends stupid in skype because they hesitated to pursue and kill a noob because they are new to the game and still has empathy. Getting rekd by other gankers, taxing and extorting random people just because you have the bad guy looks, necro armor etc.

In a nutshell, what keeps me playing is the unpredictable and experimental nature of hnh, other games don't have this scale of freedom.

For me there is no end game, it is just a continuation of evolving my character and my village, which I enjoy. I have a goal or two each world, as an example, this world it was to mine silver and gold but even reaching that goal would not then equal game over. I find I do care about my village and I can't abandon my livestock to starve to death, lol, which I know is ridiculous but none the less that's how it is and overall I find Haven both fun and relaxing.

The 'dangerous' side of the game adds excitement, not so much when it threatens your whole set up ............. though it does spur me on to fight and resist.

There are times I play less, as someone else said here you do need the odd break but then I'll think of a new project or an event will happen that demands my attention and I'm back.

Friends play a role too and the community in general, I'm happy being a part of it in the same way I do/am with my rl circle.

I love Haven.

Games like this just give me shit to do, and a reason to get out of bed, rather than being bored as hell looking for some new tv show to watch or something

also what is most especially fun about haven as opposed to other similar games is that there is real adrenline in PvP, you are gambling with months of work on the line

PvP is pretty much the ultimate goal and motivation for this game, no other reason to play other than as 3d chat room, which is not really a bad thing

I`m playing HnH since January 2012 cause a friend of mine adducted me.
He enlighted my playful side and now I am truly in love with Haven.

I never integrated myself in Haven's generel community before, but I share Amanda's point of view.
Furthermore there is no other game with such "lofty ambitions".

I like overall feeling of this game(I like nostelgia of 2d graphics and cheap midi sound.), managing and crafting, and social aspects, too.

The only thing that keeps me playing atm is the hype for Hafen and ofc mvgulik. Otherwise it doesn't make much sense to play W7 from my position (too far behind everyone else).

It was the same reason in Salem I only kept playing because I had ppl around me that I could trust and had a lot of fun with them, even though I was in the most hated town (greetings to all former Gallows Hill members).

After 1 or 2 weeks most ppl get bored because they builded everything they wanted and don't know what they should do now. Grind for better Quality stuff? Make friends? Become a trader or raider? It's up to you to keep yourself excited and focused but most gamers today can't really do that.

They're too spoilt to do this on their own, they want the devs to do it for them with new updates, new worlds etc. one of the reasons why I like the sandbox concept of haven so much it's up to you how you want to waste your time
