There is this aspect but there is also the aspect that villages are the supreme authority in H&H and the Trust factor in leaving all your shit on what is essentially someone else's claim.
My understanding is that if you have a personal claim on village grounds and don't have it set to allow kin access, then the only person you need to trust is the law speaker. Other village members leave scents if they try to nick your shit.
