No, I dont trap them. If I used SoS, I wouldnt have to chase them either. But thats where the fun is, for me.
I suppose I should not have used either the impersonal "you" or the ""have to" in my previous post. Its really a personal choice that makes the game more fun.

Those are crime markers. You can investigate them to follow the perpetrator or to locate their hearth. I never cared much about looking at my own crime scents, so my pictures arent nearly as colorful as the ones posted above.
