The way the game is acting makes me think it isnt the server that is the problem...

Its the code.

These things do indicate transfer problems though, not really code problems. The reason things are appearing in midair, or without backgrounds ect, ect, is because it cannot handle the data traffic, so things (objects, data tables, images) are having a problem all coming through at the same time. This is why sometimes it seems as though your commands, actions, are sitting in a queue waiting for their turn for the data packets to be sent. It's just a bad traffic clog problem with all the players on at same time sending commands to, and recieving from, the line/computer the game is on.

It could be both. The net code may not be very efficient and the server may not be up to the task anyway, making for a double shit sammich.

Would also like to know where these new people are coming from .

There's a group near my wilderness alt that appeared a couple of days ago from Mortal Online. I've looked around and seen 15-20 hearth fires, maybe more.

I myself am from Mortal Online.. and let me tell 'ya.. we've been attracted to this game due to it's features and potential, which is why a crowd will keep forming to play this game.

I'm just surprised at the number of people you guys managed to get on that island. When I first spawned there the day wilderness spawns were added, I was alone and everything was level 10, now stuff is level 1. Not complaining or anything, just surprised.

The topic on the MO forums went from 1 post to 300 posts and 8+ pages in less than 2 days, which is an accomplishment on those forums considering the number of lurkers vs posters.

Although, I live out in the wild with someone I found in these forums, we've already set up a nice little settlement, just lacking metal.

They must be hosting this game on a home PC with a 1MB line.
If they get a 30$ VPS they should be able hold over 1k players. Unless, the code is fcked.

PS. Willing to donate for this. Let me know.

loftar, in another thread, wrote:Indeed, it seems as though we're running out of bandwidth. I'm saying "as though" because we aren't, though. It's just as if the game refuses to use anymore. It must obviously be some scalability issue in the networking code which has met some limit that I've failed to foresee. I'll just have to discover what that limit is.

Interestingly, it is the r-message part of the protocol that is lagging the worst. The object-attribute-transfer is holding up a lot better. I would have guessed that they'd have failed in the opposite order, seeing of object transfer is much more complex and should be much more susceptible to retransmission problems. I'd love nothing more than to hack away on this and find what is making r-messages fail, but unfortunately I've got other things that need to be done. :P
