I agree, That's what I meant about "a few special moves". Having some interesting little add-ons to the combat procedure does make it more fresh that "2 button clicks (attack/defend), Things like some passive buffs, group buffs like you mentioned and maybe a couple of pre-buff moves on top of the attack (not required but is ok). But too much more than that and you make things so distracting and cumbersome that not many will participate. It's "over-thinking" imo, and that's a waste of genius as there is so much more that could be worked on/expanded/tweaked. A good game that works well with 100 features is ALOT better than a broken game with lots of bugs and conflicts and cumbersome gameplay with 500 features. QUALITY over quantity will win-out everytime, both in player satisfaction and financial reward (as well as professional reputation).

It doesn't help that the UI...even with hotkeys makes it more of a ridiculous. I think the old system was find and that there is nothing wrong with a random element. As others have said it was just math/scale imba. The devs seemed to think that no one used the test server except WV. Which is wrong I and others used it and provided feedback. Avu may have had a shitty disposition and demeanor but he was right. It sucks fucking balls. SO we waited till more updates to it were announced. None were and all of the sudden WE aren't the ones devoting any attention to the test server? Look, a long while back I was pretty shitty to J&L but I did take some time to think about my perspective and gained some clarity. But this time I gotta say it again, J&L fucked up here. Maybe I'm missing something but I'm not losing any sleep over it either way.

tbh the old system was not so bad, if you want to add in the offense/defense bars i'm fine with it but overall it's cumbersome and not much fun. the real crux of the problem with the old system was that it was terribly imbalanced and someone with 200ish combat had no chance against someone with 400ish (which is still a problem in this system) i like the group combat buffs (or the idea of them, haven't used them yet), i like the theory that a larger group of lower leveled characters has more of a chance against a single high level character (although, there should of course be some investment in the lower level characters, we obviously don't want a group of low investment alts able to take down a high level character.)

I concur. The very thing that drew me and my guy to this game was the sheer simplicity. It was such a simple looking game, with very simple graphics, but a fuckton of content. The simpler the better in my not so humble opinion.

Dunno, after settling on a decentish move set I think it's actually more fun, but it doesn't really change anything.

I do. At ~140 unarmed I cannot take down a lvl 9-10 deer (They heal the pathetic dmg I do too quickly, and gain ATK/DEF -way- too fucking fast).
There is no reason to use anything besides Punch, because knock his teeth out now has too high of requirements to make it worth it. I tried to use Strangle a few times, but never have seen it work. Several people seem to think it is broken.

There are about 5 truly useful moves, the rest do not give enough benefit to make the use of them... Useful. I have to use dodge now, because otherwise I will slowly be whittled to nothing with combat meditation.

Stats and skills play a big role still. I dueled a 2 people...

Gato let me use his B12, and I owned him with my 25 melee, even though he had 100+ unarmed. Once he used the B12, he owned my ass fast.
Then I dueled someone (whose name escapes me) who was melee. His overall stats were a bit lower than mine. I used unarmed against him, and won pretty easily. Then I gave him my pair of ~Q150 thanes. This made the battle much longer, and he won. Couldn't tell weather it was because I was distracted or because of his new stats.

It may be a little more variety... I dono about fun yet. Being able to duel others sure is nice at the very least.

There you go, now you've got a good reason why you can't take it down by PUNCHING it, no matter how many hours you spend grinding teapots... OH NOES, REALISM!

It's not that unreasonable to suggest that a deer or a moose could be killed bare handed by an exceptionally skilled and strong individual. However, it should probably be decided exactly what the skill numbers are supposed to denote in real skills.

I am confused about your post to be honest. I cannot decide if its scarcasm, an attempt at an insult, or what. Ill take it as serious for fun.

First, what kind of idiot would you have to be to grind skills like that? Teapots are poor LP/hour, and can easily be outstripped by playing the game. Show me a person who grinded teapots for a month straight, and Ill show you a person who played the game properly for a month who has better stats/skills.

Second, nowhere did I say that this was unreasonable. In fact, I think this is just about how it should be. You shouldnt be able to take a lvl X bear down in 10 hits or less, and get 10x the LP you do from every other animal. It should be a challenge, and it should take several people. That way the insane LP gain from bears is actually reasonable, when the LP is spread out over 2-4 people.

And lastly... Realism is only a good argument if it helps gameplay. Otherwise, please fuck off with that retarded reasoning.

EDIT: I swear too much
