Yeah, the fishing thing kind of sucks, but your comments about mining are just whining. Trade for metal if you want metal. If you really wanted to mine (which is boring, by the way), you could find a way.

Mining is valuable, rewarding and important.
Mining is boring and a crappy task.

These statements are both true and do not in any way conflict.

To YOU on the second sentence. And you're right they do not conflict UNLESS you try to convince everyone of sentence 2 without admitting/including sentence 1 which is what most of them do, for obvious hypocritical reasons. Also, it isn't that they just say sentence 2, it is that they say it while also advising to "Shut up, don't get one, don't bother, just trade for metal" and all that other shit while they at the same time run out and find one (and grief others) as soon as they can.

yes, a lot of the mines have been found and those who found it put a sturdy palisade around it

but didnt claim it, half of the time

go claim one, build a ram and its yours

we've found 3 of such sites and so far noone came back to complain. One was taken by others before we got there (they claimed it 4 hours before we got there abd were not the original prospector) but the other 2 were still free
Learn from the mistakes of others. You won't live long enough to make all of them yourself.

I'm with you on this, it kind of sucks that there are no mines left.

While I'm sure every surface detectable mine is indeed found (According to my calculations it would only take roughly a hundred pieces of RustRoot to do an initial scan of the whole world surface) many have not been developed or defended so groups can still 'acquire' them. Their may also be a great wealth of mines in caves as you must enter the cave before RR can detect it, I've heard reports that suggest as much as half the metal deposits might be of this type and surely these are not all found yet, though the next few months may change that. So their is potential out their to get a mine, its not exclusively first come, but it dose practically demand a group effort which is not unreasonable.

While the possibility to aquire a mine certainly still exists, I'm not to sure your cave statement flies.

I've covered huge amounts of land, and I've not found a single cave.

Add to that the fact that only 1 out of 50 caves are likely to hold a mine.....

And there is a very good reason for not guarding or no claims: copper or tin! yay! So useless alone. No RoB, nobody to trade tin/copper for. Also the lack of the RoB means no competition for prices in case you find one trader, damn monopoly.

Not to mention some ppl are just afraid of selling iron: what? I'm not going to allow my neighbours to make weapons and armors so they can raid me!

And now that I'm talking about that: giving crossroads to a village is always a risk, it's an invitation to raid you für die lulz.

Beating my own drum again in this thread, but this is part of the idea of New Brodgar.

It is true that there is not much in the way of trade going on in this world right now. However, that is not going to be the case forever.

It's not ready yet, but hopefully by the end of next week weekend we should have our plaza claimed, and signposts up. We will be happy to link with any town that wants to. The plaza will be filled with the trade stalls of our citizens, who eventually should reach a pretty large number (I'm hoping more than a hundred eventually). We will leave an area of the plaza unclaimed for people to drop/swap items.

Around this time it should also become possible for non-citizens to rent land from New Brodgar to use for warehouses for trade or what not.

Anyway, the point is that 'civilisation' in this world is still in a very developmental stage. Places are growing, people are pulling themselves out of subsistence living and starting to amass some excess things which they would like to swap for things they lack. Trade links will begin to form. Places like New Brodgar, especially, will become places where you can go to get your hands on, or sell, pretty much anything.

Its a bad thing not even near half of the people have iron and other metals, otoh it keeps the game competetive. Want a mine, build a ram, break the palisade and kill everyone.

No really, what do you want, mines that spawn next to each hearthfire?

Stone q10 axes (maybe better unarmed) vs metal? :Interesting concept of competetive.

Hey! Maybe if you complain loud enough, Jorb will put a gold mine UP YOUR ASS. Or would you still complain even then?
