Guys, Come into the irc channel we can talk about events ingame, If enough people join it i'll try to organize fun ingame events with my own resources like world relay races, and etc.

I'm there.

Edit: except it really doesn't seem to be a useful, productive way to communicate. The entire thing is dominated by one person's blabbering... (no offense).

You have used a chat program before, right? I wish I could say I was kidding but that does seem to be the way it breaks down quite a bit of the time... But that may just be my experience.

I'll be there in a sec I guess.

Heh. When I suggested a global IRC channel it was frowned upon. I guess we have enough people to fill it up. I may wander over they right now. :D

Actually I think it's more that the Dev's aren't really a fan of a global chat feature... Having said that I'm a fan of talking to people, and there's usually not enough people online when I am, so next time I play I'll be joining your channel

Well, actually, if you push Ctrl+C, there is an ingame global chat. But no one uses it, presumably because they don't know it exists.

Edit: Also, it has no 'history'. So if you open it, you will not see messages that were sent while it was closed (or even messages that were sent while it was previously open).
i guess they never miss huh

What ferinex is neglecting to mention is the fact that it takes up a good bit of the screen, so if you are actually trying to do something it just gets in the way.

I don't have the post to hand, but there's one floating around where jorb/loftar mentions that as something they were playing around with but also mentions that they don't really like the idea of global chat and are fans of limiting chat to local areas and I think speech bubbles that everyone can see.

Unfortunately(?) this sort of limitation isn't really enforceable and while I can see how it adds a fair bit of flavor to the game I can also see the massive convenience that comes from irc/IM style chat communications
