I actually had that plan in mind. I am surrounded by tress, so it should be easy as soon as I get a decent supply of rope in control.

Yes, collect all the bones, taproots and nettles you find. If you have a farm with all crops, water source, chicken coop and trees you can survive a siege:)

I've decided, It's too early for me to strike out on my own just yet. My land is too far away from integral resources, so self sufficiency is a deadbeat way to go. I have no access to clay or water. As soon as I finish crafting my backpack, I'm off and see if I could handle transcience for a while on my way to some friendly settlement.

That's god for you, it's difficult to survive on your own in H&H, one russian with an axe and a battering ram, and you're fucked. However, that's not to say cities are completely safe either. Try and settle somewhere with good defenses and fighters. The village i live in has 3 palisades for protection, with the intention of adding more.

I've found a friend who gave me some wheat seeds and a backpack. All I had to pay him were chantrelles. I live near their city, two cities actually, in between them near the river, but with a well close enough to home for me to palisade. This is pretty nifty, surviving on my own. As soon as I get my timber home up I'm pretty good.
