Fords would be easiest to implement, you know. That is, simply having them as random stretches of shallow water then allow animals and vehicles to wade through it

What's the point of wagons when you can't even travel long distances without hitting a river?

When you are saying 16-20 slots, do you mean inventory slots, or slots like in carts or boats?

Then it's a pretty good idea! You should also think about a bigger boat and buoys (like road making but in water).
