Another reason not to do mass tree chop for lp - if some locals won't like your deforesting work - they may chop your ass off :)

Sure it's not the best strategy later on, but to start it works, just don't do it near your camp (not a problem for him since he wants to be a nomad), or don't stay where you do it (also not a problem, he's a nomad)

Actually, carrots grow HELLA-fast; even if only to their first or seed-harvestable stage. Add a beehive, to speed that even more.

While the concept of living in your wagon and temp-claiming when logged out is awesome, it only takes one person with theft for you to lose all your material progress (minus character/inventory). Not to mention, logging out while in a wagon won't let you log back in on it.

And, by the way, didi you ever tryed to map the world? I've. Tons of lp, totally nomad and with the right perception, totally full of inkweed.

Carthography need a little preparation, but then is really a nomad skill.
