yeh true i like it aswell, the simple math. 6 hours would be easy aswell, but i guess thats too fast the change... like either you or jorb said he has a lot of ideas for the night. thus only 6 hours might not be enough (?)

Making it six hours wouldn't actually help, though, since 6 divides 24, and the in-game cycle would thus still follow the real-life calendar perfectly.

In fact, 24 is, one might say, explicitly chosen for being hard to find an easy-to-work-with divisor. The 24/60/60 time division comes from the ancient Babylonian civilization, who preferred the number 60 precisely because it is evenly divisable by so many different number (2, 3, 5, 10, 15, 20 and 30) and the use of 24 obviously stems from the same reasoning. Seven and eleven are just about the only numbers even remotely nearby which are co-prime with 24.

It is a choice, really, because if you have an even number of H&H days per RL day, then it will always be the same time at the same time, if you get what I'm saying.

If you get disjointed days, then there won't be the lockstep problem, but you'll get 3.1415942 or so hDays per rDay.

A third option is something of a compromise; as it is, there are 3 hDays per rDay, and thus 21 hDays per 7 rDays. Now, if we accept that we have a non-integer ratio between hDays and rDays, we can still get an integer ratio when looking at large groups, such as 27 hDays per 7 rDay.

That is, just under a hMonth per rWeek. That's 8.22 or so rHours per hDay- practically the same as now, but just enough so that each hDay is slightly later in the rDay.
And, every rWeek they line up nice and even.

And then, we have a good framework to build long-term seasons out of. If summer is three weeks long... but I'm must reign in my favored steed Tangent.
Surprise.

I'm in fan of debasing the date time standard.

Too long have we stuck with this outdated backing of "real and tangible" goods to measure the worth of our hours. It'd be far more practical, and easy to manage by the government if we moved to an abstract standard that our honourable devs could manage for us

I think adjusting the length of the in-game day to accommodate those of us blessed with gainful employment it is neat idea.
That said, the day vs night slider would matter a lot less. ;)
