I don't know if he has. I have. Something will most likely be done about it at some point, but atm I don't want to make the game any more of a kindergarten than it already is. For the time being I think swimming serves as a healthy memento mori. But it was obviously better back in the days when you had to swim to cross rivers. Boats suck! :D

1. If you really want to keep a penalty for it, instead of killing have drowning apply Knockout and take some percentage of HHP plus all inventory/equipment. You wash ashore somewhere in rags. Also I hope the next world has larger shallows that you can sometimes ford, third world rivers are just ridiculous.

2. To make Swimming actually useful, have players start with the toggle and make the skill reduce stamina loss or increase swim speed to Walk, preferably the latter.

3. Ease up on the stamina drain so new players actually have time to react. (Read: panic) Have it gradually increase or something. A larger, more obvious UI element would help.

Boats should be deleted!
Swimming should be the only way to once again crosss rivers! And rafts!

I like this idea, but instead of an immediate knockout when your stamina is drained it should start draining SHP instead. Only after those are completely gone you'll go unconscious and wash away. Or drown, if the devs still want to keep a bit of the river horror.

This.

Yes, depictions of what modes are active (swimming, criminal acts) need show in UI like the other buffs (tea, alcohol etc.)

Something should definitely be done about it. It's obviously a pretty crappy mechanic atm. But a reminder of death it is.

Also: Taming is not hard. What are you smoking? It is time consuming, and yet wearing a full suit of leather armor and having 20 unarmed combat or so, using proper technique you can tame animals no problem. Open up one of those coffee-break online games and burn time while waiting for the animals to aggro you again.

Or take the one(s) you are taming with you far enough away from the rest of the herd that they lose aggro on you, then go back to them and aggro them to get the one(s) you're taming to re-aggro you instantly.

Wouldn't the reminder of death be cooler/funner if it was more survival-ish?

I mean, that it's harder to stay alive and that, for example, at night, just like in MC, stronger, dangerous creatures roam about, which is the time when you should do allt he things inside the walls of your home.

The reminder of death by swimming is more of an annoyance because usually it's just the noobs that die from it...because they didn't know it was deadly.

Agreed. I'm a fan of survival games and would like to see this become more challenging, but an instadeath doesn't really provide any challenge or excitement.

Yes.
It's obviously a pretty crappy mechanic atm.
That's an insult to all crappy mechanics.
But a reminder of death it is.

I think washing up at the shore somewhere, naked without any gear at all, with an empty kin list (since all think you're dead)... hard enough.
