The gunman suspected of shooting of a security guard at the conservative Family Research Council in Washington, D.C., on Wednesday shouted political statements and was carrying a Chick-fil-A fast food bag, according to reports.
The gunman shouted comments about the FRC’s positions on issues, according to reports by Fox News and the Washington Post. The shooter, identified as a 28-year-old Virginia man, was carrying a bag that had a Chick-fil-A bag inside it, according to the The Washington Post. NBC said federal sources told the network he “was carrying a backpack containing materials related to Chick-fil-A restaurants.”

Eighty-three percent of New Yorkers said politicians shouldn’t discourage people from patronizing Chick-fil-A, according to a Quinnipiac University poll on Wednesday. And 82 percent said there shouldn’t be an impact on the company’s ability to get permits. While same-sex marriage is legal in New York, the poll indicates that a business’s opinions should not influence whether they can obtain government permits. Seventy-four percent of New York City voters said a business owner’s controversial views shouldn’t affect lawmakers’ decisions in granting permits.
