Fun trivia: We had 76 simultaneous players logged in a few hours ago, which is a new record. Welcome everyone from Something Awful!

JTG wasn't our leader after Goku was killed and wasn't even part of the move. Stop dragging out this bloody flag. Hell, most of us don't know jack about the drama in this game as we're only a few days old.

Theory-crafting about mechanics and philosophical smugness aside one player is killing off perhaps over half of this game's playerbase.

Jon? Your guy? As Trav said earlier, I don`t understand at all why you would complain to us about an SA guy running amok. If you guys can`t handle him on your own, hire a ranger.

Jon was a player before we joined, and he did not reveal himself as a goon or come play with us (ie, he didn't greet us, join up in the thread, join our town, come say hi, or any of that). He's about as much a goon as you are, if you put ten bucks in -- he has full access to all our private forums and IRC channels, even if he doesn't play with us, which means that if he wants to smash our shit, we can't stop him. That'd be like if Sami broke out his mommy's credit card and bought an account -- then he'd be a goon too. Would you say the same thing then?

Hmm. I wish there was a more elaborate privilege system, that allowed you to set limits on players -- like, one level would let them use everything but not unload things, or regions that had stuff for level-1 rank while other regions only allowed level-2 rank (preventing newbies from taking valuable/restricted stuff). That would be neat.

Thoughts from a random goon:

I started this game to have fun and build a little community with other goons. Yeah, the original goon city got fucked over and wrecked and shit happens, so we packed up and moved to a new spot as far from anyone else as we could find. We had a thriving hill within a couple hours, all of us pitching in and helping and trying to make a new city.

One guy who has a beef with us comes in and is untouchable, slaughtering every single person he can find. Hell, we still can't log in because he's sitting at camp killing people before their clients even finish loading. Even if you get a chance to attack him, it wouldn't matter, he's untouchable. Can't land a hit, you're going to get one-shotted. Completely, 100% utterly pointless to even try. One guy wrecking dozens of peoples hard work and there's no way to retaliate.

99% of us goons just want to build a city and do our own thing. There's assholes among us, but the same can be said for every group of players in this game.

This game is fun as hell but running into a situation where it's impossible to defend yourselves even when you outnumber your attacker 20 to 1 is incredibly fucking stupid and just terrible game mechanics, no matter how you look at it.

You can log into the ring and keep playing doing other stuff if you want, just not in town. And we had you put your hearth there because we didn't put up an idol, so, um, sorry. </3 You can take a break for a day or two, and we'll probably hash out an idea by then, or you can keep playing and just hug Brodgar while you grind, which, you know, totally sucks.

Anyways, you guys (not goons), you have to realize that in general, if you have a scent and actually hunt down a specific goon and kill HIM for committing a crime, we'd probably let you do so and just laugh at him or whatever. I mean, yeah it's annoying that you killed JTG. But we're hardly bent out of shape about it.

I'm going to try to dispel some of the mystery. Or maybe add to it, if you choose not to believe me.

I am Jon. I am a peaceful, non-macroing player. I am honest and hardworking; I have friends who could say so. I'm also not in SA, so I don't know where this nonsense about "infiltrating" anything came from. Until the Goons joined the game, I lived just far enough away from the RoB to avoid ground zero of griefing. Then they moved about a minute's jog away from me, ruining the forest spawns, claiming the mines, and attacking me while I fished in the one pond nearby. They have griefed and stolen from my friends and neighbors, causing most of them to move to the far edges of the world. I got lonely. If you think the Goons have been playing clean, you haven't been attacked by one of their killing parties. Good for you.

Today's destruction of the Zarekim settlement by Sami, Wanderer, or WHOEVER did it was news to me. I was thrilled to know that someone had killed JTG/Goku, as he was the only one of the group who was able to draw my blood. Yes, the Goons drew FIRST blood while I was fishing. It was a gang attack. Regardless, I tracked their filthy thief stink to the new settlement, and exacted justice. I struck a blow for myself, my property, my friends and theirs, and all the free people of the Hearthland who have had ENOUGH of the griefing in this game. I struck a blow to show the evil players, and those who aid and house them, that there is at least one left who is not afraid to stand up to the growing darkness.

To those trackers and rangers that would cut me down for my actions, I do not judge you. In this place, justice is only what we as individuals can create - I dealt my own justice as surely as you seek your own form. If you think you'll achieve anything, brace yourself for disappointment. When you kill my offline body, I will be naked and at maximum Tradition (which I got WITHOUT macros). You'll only be cleansing me of the foulness of tonight, and I will awaken with all my stats and gear intact.

I hope I do not encounter such players. If you've ever been robbed, attacked, griefed, had your enjoyment of the game sullied by cowards who find ways to exploit the game at every update and iteration, you'll understand what I've done.

Dude you killed half a dozen newbies who didn't know what the fuck. If you have a scent, track them and kill them and no one's going to really care. But if you kill an itty bitty newbie I spent HOURS walking to our new settlement and gathering stuff for, we're going to be kind of miffed, because we know you're coming back, and that basically means you're going to slaughter our newbies until they decide this game is too imbalanced to play, which, right now, it almost is.

Ok, he sounds like a real jerk then. You should ask for a ranger to step in and help you, contact Blaze or Raeph, or start a new thread about it. Using this thread to complain about it is a bad idea and will just confuse people as to what you're on about.

I've honestly never seen this Jon character in game, nor any of his forum posts, so either he's been playing silently for a long time, or he's fairly new which will make him easy pickings for an experienced ranger, just get em to find the murder scents and then hunt him down.

Actually been meaning to ask this, even if its going to de-rail this topic, but what exactly DOES tradition allow you to carry over? just your skill levels (Melee, Marksmanship, Stealth etc) or is there anything else?

Jon killed a lot more than 6 newbies. I chanced logging in earlier (Jon's sitting at our camp and killing people before their client finishes loading) and basically he just killed everyone then ransacked the place. Noone stole from Jon. He killed over a dozen new players and looted our camp and he's still sitting there, probably. We can't do anything about it and he's just a coward.
